Blogger Interview: Gerard Perez

Do you remember when you first became interested in fashion?

I do! If my memory serves me right, I believe I got hooked up in dressing up when I was in my 3rd year highschool. I started buying branded shirts back then that sometimes leaves me with no money to eat lol.

I became very conscious about how I mix and match my outfits so I guess it all started there.

Tell us about yourself and how you started blogging.

I can describe myself as a creative person. I pay attention to the smallest details, I’m OC in many ways.

I apply my obsessive-compulsiveness in almost anything.

I decided to start a blog two months after I got my very first DSLR last year. I became so addicted to capturing moments on my camera that I wanted to share it to the internet world. My intention on blogging at first was as cliché as the answers of everyone else: to express my thoughts. Time passes by, I decided to turn my blog into something I love doing every single day, and that is to dress up, then everything fell into place for me (at least I think it did).

I still plug in my artistic side of me from time to time posting photo dumps and my pencil sketches just to change things up.

People started asking me to draw them, and I’m always like “i’ll see” hahaha

How would you define your style?

I… am not sure. I like the grubby style so much and at the same time, I mix the preppy style with it so it’s a combination.

I’m not really sure again but I think I have a punk / rockstar heart within me (though I dread loud, metal musics) so I mix them as well from time to time. Back in the days, I idolize Chris Brown’s style so I always put on my Nike SBs, Supras and all those stuff. I still love that style though so I come back to it sometimes.

What other fashion blogs would you recommend?

There’s not a lot of guy fashion bloggers out there because they claim that girls dominates the fashion world, but I do have a lot of blogs I like from both sides. My friends Miko Carreon (www.mikocarreon.tumblr.com) and Aidx Paredes (www.aidxparedes.com) are some awesome guys to mention. The buddies Raiza Poquiz (www.misspopquiz.tumblr.com) and Melissa Gatchalian (www.sartorialpanda.blogspot.com) are stellar too! But my favorite blog of all time isn’t from around here, her name is Jessica Tran (www.jesslovesfred.com). Her witty approach never fails to crack me up!!

Who, or what, are your style inspirations?

My inspirations come from a lot of things, weird things too. One time I saw a black cat with blue eyes, so I went to dress up with black and blue. Lookbook.nu have been providing me with my daily dose of inspiration and of course, different styling so I guess I would say that the awesome people from Lookbook would be my number one inspiration.

Greatest fashion indulgence?

Basic pieces such as shirts or tank tops would be my number one. Jackets, buttondowns, boots and pants all tied in second. I’m very particular on my top part more than my bottom because I think people notice the top first before they look down and analyze the bottom. Specially for the guys I think lol kidding.

Where are your favorite places to shop?

Oxygen is always on the top of my list. FOREVER 21 and Topman will always be there. I do thrift shopping too at times because I always believe that it’s not about the brand, but it’s all about how the pieces fits you. A branded sweatshirt that looks large on you can be totally outwitted by a thrifted one that compliments your body type. It’s all about the fit. Always have been.

Fashion designer/s you admire and what is it that you love about them?

Drei Soriano is my top pick. Just as I mentioned, I’m more particular about my top and that’s what Drei Soriano brings. His blazers and his jacketsare all on my fashion repertoire. Just amazing!!

If you could raid three bloggers’ closets, who would you pick and why?

Hahaha I love this question, I’ve never thought about this before! Hmmm. I think I’ll be raiding Carlos Concepcion’s closet (even though he’s not a full time blogger, his closet is heaven), All of David Guison’s shoes and Paul Jatayna’s OS Accessories!

Finally, what is it you hope your readers get out of your posts?

Inspiration. That’s all I can hope for. I’ve always been so happy when my readers express their thoughts about my blog and how I inspire them at times. Through my style, my sketches or maybe my photos, I hope I can invigorate the people who were able to see them. A blog post is successful when someone got inspired.
